A mysterious fire has damaged high voltage electricity lines in Fuata Nyayo slum near Nairobi’s South B Estate causing power outages in parts of the city, Kenya Power has reported.

The Company’s General Manager for Network Management, Eng. Benson Muriithi, said the damage caused by the early morning blaze had cut-off critical power supply to Nairobi West substation.

“Areas affected by the outage are Madaraka Estate, South B including Mater Hospital, South C, parts of Nairobi West, Wilson Airport and T- Mall shopping centre. Others include Plainsview Estate, Hazina Estate, Otiende, Southland and parts of Lusaka Road,” said Eng. Muriithi.

He said the Company’s technicians are on site to assess the damage and urgently plan for restoration works even as the engineer’s attempt to transfer customers to alternative electricity feeders from nearby substations in Langata, Uppehill and Industrial Area.

“We appeal for patience from customers even as its technicians strive to normalise supplies today,” he said.
