KENYA POWER PROVIDES FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A PRIMARY SCHOOL

As part of its CSR Programme, Kenya Power has contributed 9 million towards the
construction of Ollessos Stima Primary School in Lessos, Nandi County.

Speaking today during the ground breaking ceremony, officiated by The Member of
Parliament, Nandi Constituency Hon. Alfred Kiptoo Keter, The Managing Director
expressed his pleasure to be partnering with the Ollessos community, which has been a
neighbor to Kenya Power’s Lessos and Ollessos sub-stations that supplies power to
three of their regions namely North Rift, Western Kenya & South Nyanza.


The power firm’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, revealed that every
year, the Company allocates one percent of their after-tax profit to Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR).


“We have made a commitment to construct this community primary school, Ollessos
Stima Primary School as part of Community Social Welfare at a cost of Kshs.9
million. During the financial year 2014/15, CSR was allocated 64 million out of which 9
million has gone towards education so far, being a sector that we value,” said Dr
Chumo.


Other CSR initiatives undertaken by the Company in the last financial year include rehabilitation of Muvwana Primary School, in Mwala, Machakos County at a cost of 5.5M, Constructing classrooms for Early Childhood Development for Tachasis Pre School located in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, at a cost of 1.4M, putting up classrooms at Immaculate Conception Mukhuyu Secondary School in Trans-Nzoia County at a cost of 2.85M, a revolving endowment fund for Starehe Girls High School that enables under privileged girls to go to school among others.


In addition, the Company has developed two sports fields for the mentally challenged children in Embu and Mombasa Counties, yearly participates in the beyond zero annual campaign, whose proceeds go towards maternal health programmes, sponsored sporting activities especially athletics, a sport that has boosted the Country’s image globally.
