January 5th 2016

The quality of power supply to the residents of Machakos County is set to greatly improve following a massive exercise by national electricity distributor Kenya Power to rehabilitate the power equipment and network serving the area at a cost of Shs.400 million.

Speaking in Machakos Town, the Company’s Regional Manager, Nairobi South, Eng. Aggrey Machasio, said that the project involves the construction of new power lines, extension of existing ones as well as rehabilitation of transformers serving the area to improve the quality of power supply.

“In the recent past, residents of Machakos County has experienced challenges in regard to quality of power supply. This will be corrected once the network upgrade project which will run for six weeks beginning this week to mid next month is complete,” Eng. Machasio said.
He said the refurbishment exercise will stabilise power reliability and, ultimately, reduce power outages which have been experienced in these areas due to overloaded transformers brought about by the growing demand for electricity.

“The Company’s technical teams are on the ground to ensure that the massive repair exercise is completed within the shortest time possible to allow residents enjoy better quality of power which includes reduced power outages that are sometimes caused by operational and system maintenance works,” he said.

Eng. Machasio said the Company has advertised in the media that planned shutdowns to carry out the works will affect the entire Machakos county including Machakos town, Mavoko, Kathiani, Masii, Mbooni and their environs.

“The management of Kenya Power regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by the shutdowns,” he added.
