Electricity fraud suspects arraigned in court

Monday, 06th October, 2014

Two men were today arraigned in Nairobi’s Milimani Court for allegedly obtaining a total of Shs.230,000 from Kenya Power customers by false pretense.

Daniel Moseti and Dennis Nyabira were each accused of three counts of fraud involving people requiring electricity connection while masquerading as Kenya Power engineers.

They were arrested in Kericho last weekend and are suspected to be part of a gang of swindlers targeting electricity customers in Nyanza, North Rift and Western regions. The two were remanded in police custody and will be taken to court later this week.

Kenya Power security reports show a worrying increase in number of fraud incidences in various parts of the country particularly in rural areas. The Company is running a media campaign to warn its customers and encourage them to report fraud incidences to the police.
