The Company in 2008 sponsored two medical camps in Machakos and Muranga at a total cost of Shs. 1,370,710. These camps offered free check-ups and treatment.
Kenya Power has maintained a highly beneficial partnership with the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre which in 2009 saw four free medical camps being sponsored at a cost of Shs. 2 million. These camps were at Kaloleni, Kilifi District; Rongai, Nakuru District; Kalimani, Machakos District; and Mukangu in Murang'a District. Over 9,000 patients were treated free of charge in these medical camps, with some being referred for specialised medical care. These cases that required further medical intervention were supported by the Company at a cost of Shs. 322,000.
In 2010, Kenya Power has dedicated Shs. 6, 525,000 to health care in the community out of which Shs. 4, 325,000 has already been spent towards:
- Medical camps held in Bungoma, Isiolo, and Butere organized in partnership with Kenya Diabetes Management Information Centre.
- Two other medical camps, one in Coast and the other in the North Rift, are scheduled to take place in September and November respectively this year.
- The company also sponsored the construction of a clinic in Kabete, Nairobi for the mentally handicapped at a cost Shs. 1 million. Construction of the clinic is in progress under the supervision of Basic Needs, a locally based NGO.
