Friday, August 8th 2014

Kenya Power has commissioned a newly constructed power line along Makutano ma Mwala – Kithimani Road in Machakos County completed at a total cost of Shs.16 million.

The 33 km line, an upshot of a partnership between Kenya Power and Machakos County, was constructed by the power firm over a period of four days.

Speaking during the official commissioning of the power line, Kenya Power’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ben Chumo, said that Kenya Power will utilize the power line to meet the growing demand for reliable and competitively priced electricity in Machakos County by connecting citizens of the county who live along the line to the national grid.

He added that the power firm intends to enter into similar partnerships with other county governments as it continues to work towards giving access to electricity to 70% of all Kenyans by 2017.

The Makutano ma Mwala – Kithimani power line, Dr. Chumo said, was one of the major programmes that Kenya Power has undertaken across the country as it works on renewing its distribution network and, consequently, improving its service.

In his remarks during the function, the Chairman of the Kenya Power Board of Directors, Mr. Eliazar Ochola, expressed the Board of Directors’ satisfaction with the speedy upgrade of the power distribution network across the country.
