Customer obligations

Customers should at their own expense, keep their meters in proper order for purposes of ascertaining the value of the supply and correctly registering that value. (Section 58(10) of the Energy Act 2006).

Under the law, Kenya Power has the right to access and liberty to take off, remove, test, inspect and replace any meter at all reasonable times (Section 58 (12). Kenya Power is obliged to keep all meters let for hire to any customer in proper order for purposes of correctly registering the value of supply.  In the event of default, the customer will not be liable to pay any charges for hire of the meter during such time as the default continues (Section 58(11)).

Customers have a legal duty to keep meters in proper order and should prevent alteration of the meter index or breaking of the meter seals (Section 58(5))
