Kenya Power Records 53% Increase in Pretax Profits

Kenya Power half year pretax profits for the period July to December 2014 rose by 52% to Shs.6.408 billion shillings from Shs.4.19 billion recorded compared to a similar period in the previous financial year.

Kenya Power plans to spend Shs.315 million to connect 18,336 residents of North Eastern Region as it continues with the implementation of its special programme to provide safe and affordable electricity connection in informal settlements.
Special electricity connection programme to benefit Nakuru residents
Kenya Power will connect 106,811 new customers in the Central Rift Region this financial year that ends in June 2015, the company Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Ben Chumo has said.
The connection drive will go a long way to assist the company achieve its connectivity target of one million additional customers to the national grid this financial year representing 36% growth in its customer base.

Kenya Power had by 7:50 a.m., restored power supply to all parts of the country following the partial national blackout that occurred at 3:39 a.m. West Kenya and North Rift Regions were not affected by the blackout as they were on supply from Turkwel, Sondu and Sang’oro power stations and from Uganda.

Following the partial national blackout that occurred at 3:39 a.m., Kenya Power had by 7:15 a.m., restored supply except for a few isolated areas in Nairobi and Mombasa. Restoration is underway for the remaining affected areas.

Kenya Power unionisable employees will receive a total of 12% pay increase per annum for the next two years following a collective bargaining agreement (CBA)signed today with the Kenya Electrical Trades and Allied Workers’ Union (KETAWU) in the Company’s headquarters at Stima Plaza.
Kenya Power to sell electricity to Rwanda
Kenya Power has entered into an agreement to sell 30MW of power to Rwanda. Kenya Power, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) and Rwanda Energy Group Limited (REG) have completed negotiations to facilitate the trade.
