Our client, The Kenya Power and Lighting Company is a well-established and recognized leader in electricity distribution and retail in the region. KPLC is established as a limited liability company under the Companies Act, Cap 486, Laws of Kenya. The Company’s key mandate is to purchase bulk electricity supply, transmit, distribute and retail electricity to end-user customers throughout Kenya. KPLC is at the forefront of spearheading accomplishment of Vision 2030.

Following the retirement of the immediate former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, the Board of KPLC is seeking to recruit an exceptional and visionary leader with good professional and ethical standing to fill the position of Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer will be the Principal Officer of the Board and will be responsible for overseeing all the strategic, operational and financial performance of the Company through effective management of the executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing overall day to day leadership and administration of operations of the Company under the guidance of the Board;

• Developing and recommending to the Board short, medium and long term strategies, business plans and annual operating budgets, while establishing proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures;

• Ensuring continuous achievement of the Company’s financial and operating goals and objectives, while ensuring continuous improvement in the quality and value of services provided by the Company;

• Developing and strengthening networks and partnerships with the government, the private sector and development partners, while spearheading donor collaboration and fundraising for project implementation;

• Advising the Board of Directors on operations, financial and investment planning and sustainable development of Company interests;

• Directing and coordinating the Company’s operations and administration to ensure

that the various divisions operate in conformity with the overall strategic plans and performance targets;

• Ensuring compliance with applicable statutory, legal and regulatory requirements and establishing mitigation measures against emerging business risks;

• Promoting the Company’s image and developing a good working relationship with all stakeholders and partners while promoting the principles of good governance in the Company; and

• Maintaining a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees while fostering a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.

 

Personal Specifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and Arts, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, or related field gained from a recognized university;

• A Master’s Degree in any of the fields above will be an added advantage;

• Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in senior management in a large organization preferably in Commercial, Public and/ or Energy or related sector;

• Must be a member in good standing where registered with a relevant professional body;

• Experience in working with government, shareholders and/or stakeholders including donors required; and

• Corporate Governance Training and/or Leadership Certification will be an added advantage.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 including; Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations; Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board; Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority; Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau.

SENIOR RISK OFFICER - (1 Post)
Job Ref: KP1/5B.2/1/3/929
Reporting to the Chief Officer, Risk Management, the Senior Risk Officer will be responsible
for the following duties:

  • Implementing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework
  • Implementing the Crisis Management Plan to ensure effective and coordinated response mechanisms to emergencies and/or disasters
  • Scanning environmental risks and identifying new threats and opportunities that may impact on the business
  • Conducting physical risk assessment surveys, propose risk mitigations and follow-up plans mechanisms
  • Prepare post incidence reports
  • Conducting risk assessments, risk quantification and risk sensitivity analysis
  • Preparation and updating of the Corporate Risk Register
  • Create awareness and embed a risk based decision making culture
  • Provide periodic status on ERM reports
  • Provision of secretariat and other support for the various established Corporate ERM Steering Committees
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned

The requirements for the post are as follows: -

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised Institution
  • Diploma from Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) or Institute of Risk Management, (IRM-UK), Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM) or Associate of Insurance and Risk Managers (AIRM-UK) or Chartered Insurance & Risk Manager (CIRM -UK)
  • Possession of a relevant Postgraduate Degree will be an added advantage
  • Eight (8) years’ work experience in management handling risk management and risk compliance
  • Technical training in Risk Evaluation and Management
  • Demonstrable familiarity with ISO 31000 & other quality control initiatives
  • Member of a recognized professional body of Risk management or related bodies i.e. Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) or Institute of Risk Management (IRM-UK), or Association of Insurance and Risk Managers (AIRM-UK), Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII-UK) or International Academy of Business and Financial Management (IABFM).
